High School Education

The MSAB High School Program serves students in grades 9–12 who are blind, visually impaired, or DeafBlind and may have additional disabilities. Through individualized instruction and specialized supports, students develop the academic, communication, and independent living skills needed for success after graduation.

Our curriculum aligns with the Minnesota Academic Standards and utilizes accessible instructional materials and educational resources designed to meet each student's unique strengths, learning needs, and Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Students participate in a comprehensive educational program that includes:

  • English Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Physical Education
  • Assistive Technology
  • Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC)

Students also participate in enrichment opportunities such as visual and performing arts, career and vocational education, and transition programming that prepare them for postsecondary education, employment, and independent living.

Related services—including Speech-Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Orientation & Mobility—are provided based on each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Instruction is delivered through a combination of large-group, small-group, and individualized learning experiences that promote collaboration, critical thinking, and active engagement.

Inclusive Learning Opportunities

MSAB students have the opportunity to participate in inclusive learning experiences through a partnership with Faribault High School, when appropriate as determined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team.

These opportunities provide students with access to additional coursework while continuing to receive the specialized supports and accommodations they need for success. MSAB's Mainstream Coordinator collaborates with Faribault Public Schools to coordinate:

  • Course registration
  • Transportation
  • Classroom accommodations
  • Educational support services
  • Communication between both schools

Inclusive learning experiences allow students to expand their academic opportunities while building confidence, self-advocacy, and independence.

The MSAB High School Program prepares students for successful transitions to college, careers, and adult life. Through individualized planning, accessible instruction, and meaningful real-world experiences, students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to achieve their postsecondary goals.
