Additional Learning Opportunities

At the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind, students are encouraged to explore educational opportunities that extend beyond the traditional classroom. Through partnerships with local schools and colleges, eligible students can participate in mainstream classes and college-level coursework while continuing to receive the specialized support and services available at MSAB.

These opportunities help students build independence, strengthen self-advocacy skills, and prepare for postsecondary education, employment, and lifelong success.

Mainstream Learning Opportunities

When determined appropriate by the student's IEP Team, MSAB students may participate in classes offered through Faribault Public Schools.

MSAB works closely with Faribault Public Schools to ensure students receive the accommodations and support they need, including:

  • Braille instructional materials
  • Accessible educational technology
  • Transportation coordination
  • Course registration assistance
  • Collaboration between MSAB staff and district personnel

These experiences provide students with additional academic opportunities while supporting a successful transition to college, careers, and adult life.

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)

The Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program allows eligible high school students to earn both high school and college credit by taking college-level courses while enrolled at MSAB.

PSEO provides students with access to challenging coursework while helping them prepare for the expectations of college.

There is no cost for tuition, required textbooks, or mandatory course fees for eligible students.

Our Postsecondary Partner

MSAB partners with South Central College in Faribault to provide accessible postsecondary learning opportunities for our students.

Students may also be eligible to attend other participating Minnesota colleges and universities.
