Academics
The Minnesota State Academy for the Blind provides a rigorous, individualized education for students who are blind, visually impaired, or DeafBlind from birth through age 22.
Our licensed Teachers of the Blind and Visually Impaired deliver instruction in small-group settings with a strong emphasis on Braille literacy, assistive technology, and the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC). The ECC builds essential skills in orientation and mobility, independent living, social interaction, career readiness, recreation, and self-determination.
Each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) guides instruction across both school and residential settings. Our curriculum aligns with Minnesota Graduation Standards while addressing each student’s unique strengths and needs. Through individualized instruction and specialized supports, students develop the knowledge, confidence, and independence needed for lifelong success.
Learning by Level
Elementary: Students receive collaborative, thematic instruction that builds foundational academic and life skills.
Middle School: Students engage in active, experiential learning that strengthens independence, collaboration, and problem-solving.
High School: Students participate in college, career, and transition-focused programming, including vocational courses, work experiences, and student-run enterprises.
Students may also participate in mainstream classes through Faribault Public Schools with individualized accommodations, transportation, and educational support provided as appropriate.
